About
Ask Your Mom is a five piece band from Bedford, NY made up of Buz Abrams, Rob Cavenagh, Derek Correia, Brett Perrine and John Trumpbour. We play classic rock covers and spend roughly 200% of our disposable income on gear. We enjoy a Dark & Stormy (Gosling’s Black Seal Rum and Jamaican style ginger beer) now and again but are not afraid of beer.
We have been together since 2005 when Rob and Derek went to Brett’s house for a dinner party with their families. That dinner launched a weekly jam that turned into actual practice and the inevitable purchase of gear. And more gear. Let’s just say we became really good customers of several retail and online auction businesses.
We played our first gig at Bedford’s Historical Hall on March 17, 2006 (photos). Brett’s daughter happened to be born on St. Patrick’s Day and who are we to question the decision to have a party? We cobbled together a PA system from friends and other bands and played to a very understanding crowd of family and friends. Our first set consisted of 6 cover songs. Our second set was the same 6 songs in a different order and likely much louder.
Matt joined the band in late summer 2008 just in time for our 2nd annual gig at the Norwalk Oyster Festival to be canceled by Tropical Storm Hannah. John was instrumental in getting the two gigs at the Oyster Festival and as a drummer himself it was kismet when he took over from our original drummer Tony Azrak in early 2009.
